Burns Heads Official Snetterton Supercup Test

1 Mins read

Will Burns set the pace during today’s official Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup test at Snetterton, though only just, with six hundredths of a second separating him and Jamie Orton.

With championship leader Tom Wrigley missing from action, his chief title rivals got the chance to get some crucial track time under their belts ahead of the race meeting at the Norfolk circuit on July 30/31.

It was Triple M Motorsport’s Orton who topped the timesheets in the morning, but as track conditions improved in the afternoon, Burns rose to the fore.

Burns produced a best lap time of 1m 55.753s in his Douglas Motorsport G55 around the 300 circuit, with Orton’s quickest effort just 0.064s slower.

Just nine thousandths of a second split Tom Hibbert and Callum Pointon in third and fourth, though the duo were both over a second slower than the twop two.

The final Pro entrant on the day was Ben Green, who finished up two tenths of a second behind Pointon and half a second clear than the fastest Am runner David Brooks.

It was a strong showing for Brooks, who made his series debut at Oulton Park earlier this month, with the privateer finishing the day nearly two seconds faster than Grahame Tilley.

Chris Car wasn’t much further behind on his first showing with Century Motorsport, whilst Supercup stalwart Fraser Robertson finished up fourth in class, the last of the nine runners on the day.

The Supercup will tackle three races during the race meeting at Snetterton, with their final chance to fine-tune their set-ups coming during pre-event Friday practice on July 29.

Full testing times can be found here.
