Sergio Sette Câmara finished third in the Qualifying Race for the Macau Grand Prix on Saturday, and admitted he was concerned to how his start would go having switched from racing with Motopark during the FIA European Formula 3 Championship to Carlin for this weekend.

Despite his worries, the Red Bull Junior Team racer managed to gain positions at the start, moving up to third by the time they reached Lisboa for the first time, and although unable to match the pace of team-mate Antonio Felix da Costa and Callum Ilott ahead of him, was comfortable holding onto the bottom step of the podium.

Sette Câmara is hopeful the team can work overnight to fix the slight pace deficit to those ahead of him to fight for the victory during Sunday’s main event.

“I was happy to get a good start; I have been driving all year with a different team so I was a bit concerned about the clutch and getting away well,” said Sette Câmara.  “I took it safe and didn’t want to crash on the first lap.  I think I got up to second and dropped back to fourth.

“Then I took a bit of a risk on the dusty line at Lisboa and had enough grip to pass George [Russell].  I think we lacked a little bit of pace, but we can fix that tomorrow.”
