Ginetta GT4 Supercup Statistics: Winter 2016

4 Mins read

With an entertaining sixth season of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup now in the record books, The Checkered Flag have crunched the numbers to see how the 2016 action effected all the key statistics on the championship’s history so far.

It’s no surprise that Carl Breeze remains the name at the top of most the standings, with the 2012 champion’s five consecutive years in the series meaning he continues to lead the way for race starts, wins, podium finishes, pole positions and fastest laps.

The class of 2016 have made their presence felt across the board though, particularly in terms of race starts where Reece Somerfield, Colin White and Jamie Orton are all closing in on Breeze – the latter two having become the latest members of the Supercup centurions club.

Mark Davies and Will Burns cleared the 75 start mark, while Carl Boardley, Rob Gaffney, Fraser Robertson and Tom Wrigley crossed their half centuries; the latter doing so as he impressively secured the 2016 title with no less than nine race wins to his name.

Whilst he looked set to match or beat the all-time record for wins in a season at one stage of the season, his final tally was enough put him a joint second, while he and Orton’s sixteen wins combined moved them both into the top five for most race wins outright.

It was Burns who secured the most podium finishes across the season meanwhile, with his seventeen visits to the rostrum putting him up to fifth in the all-time rankings, one position shy of Orton, who becomes only the second driver to take podiums in five consecutive seasons.

The stats that remain untouchable at present are Tom Ingram’s stunning fifteen fastest laps in a season, Tom Sharp’s prolific run of 20 wins in 54 races for a winning percentage of 37%, and Charlie Robertson’s qualifying dominance of six pole positions in a season.
