Ott Tänak leads 2018 Neste Rally Finland after the rally opening 2.31km Super Special in Harju ahead of Thierry Neuville and Sébastien Ogier.
The Toyota driver completed the stage in 1m49.2s with championship leader Neuville 0.7s adrift in second and Ogier, using a new rear end on the M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC this weekend, a further tenth of a second behind.
The second Hyundai of Andreas Mikkelsen lies fourth ahead of the winner of this event 12 months ago Esapekka Lappi. Fastest man in shakedown Mads Østberg sits in joint sixth position with Citroen teammate Craig Breen after the pair set identical stage times on Thursday evening.
Rounding out the top 10 are the third Toyota of Jari-Matti Latvala, Australian Hayden Paddon in the third Hyundai and Elfyn Evans in the second M-Sport Fiesta.
Italian Fabio Andolfi leads WRC2 in the Skoda Fabia R5 while, Ken Torn leads JWRC ahead of Emil Bergkvist and Terry Folb
