ESMotorsport-LabasGas have revealed that they will not be competing with their Skoda Fabia WRX at the seventh round of the FIA World RX championship in Canada
Team manager Robertas Maneikas said in a statement:
“ESmotorsport – LabasGas would like to announce its absence from the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Canada. It was not an easy decision made by our team, partners and sponsors.
“We believe that we have shown great potential as a private team in its FIA World Rallycross Championship debut season and what we can achieve with our Skoda WRX supercar accompanied by a capable driver behind the wheel. We are immensely motivated after the results in Norway and Sweden with our driver Kevin Abbring“.
Maneikas went on to explain that, due to a scheduling problem, Kevin Abbring is unavailable to drive the car in Canada. Abbring is the team’s one and only driver after the departure of Rokas Baciuska earlier in the year.
The team are hoping to continue the development of the Skoda Fabia WRX during their break from the race(s) and hope to return with an even more competitive package
Maneikas finished by saying; “As we are saddened by missing this great event, we are as excited to announce electrifying news later this season.”
Could the “electrifying news” be that the team are planning to compete in the new Projekt E support class? No other team has yet confirmed their participation.
The loss of ESMotorsport for Trois-Rivieres leaves a spot open in the semi-finals and finals that has been, up until now, occupied by Kevin Abbring. Could STARD capitalize on this?
