The FIA European Rally Championship has published the new date for the Rally Islas Canarias round, one week earlier than its original planned date.
The tarmac-only rally which now has recieved a new date is now set to be held on 26-28 November rather than 3-5 December, the date is still a subject to FIA ratification and it will be decided on the next FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting on 19 June.
Due to the re-scheduling, the FIA ERC promoter Eurosport Events has been looking closely to make the new date suitable for the Spanish Rally Championship, along with the drivers and the teams, as they are running in conjunction with the FIA ERC series.
Jean-Baptiste Ley, the ERC Co-ordinator is pleased that the new date will work fine for both the series; ” “With Spanish federation RFEDA a strong partner of the ERC, it was important we could agree on a date that worked for all parties. Besides, we are all in the same boat due to COVID-19 so it’s important we all help each other. I am therefore very pleased we have found a solution and look forward to working towards the 44th running of Rally Islas Canarias in November.”
The foutry-fourth running of the rally was originally planned to be held on 7-9 May but the ongoing COVID-19 caused the season highlight Spanish tarmac rally to be postponed. The organisers of the rally as well as Eurosport Events have been working hard to bring it back for the season.
“Rally Islas Canarias is not only one of the highlights of the FIA ERC season, it’s also a key component of the Spanish championship,” Ley explained.
