The first graduates of the Bentley Motorsport Academy will begin their journey to become the next generation of ‘Bentley Boys’ as they prepare for the opening round of the 2020 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup this weekend.
Young guns Frank Bird, Nicolai Kjærgaard, and Euan McKay will share a Team Parker Racing Bentley Continental GT3 as the Endurance Cup finally kicks off at Imola.
Despite preparation for the season being interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic the three drivers have ramped up their preparations with test days at venues across the United Kingdom, and at SIMTrack racing simulator centre in order to learn the every inch of the daunting Imola circuit.
Despite none of the drivers have ever raced (let alone visited) at the track before, their work at SIMTrack has put them in confident mood especially as they reckon the circuit will suit the big Bentley.
“I think Imola will suit the Bentley with some straights and fast corners,” says Euan McKay.
Team mate Bird agreed and couldn’t wait to get started.
“It was enjoyable to learn as it is a bit of an old school track,” he said.
“I can’t wait to get there.”
As part of the new for 2020 programme the three graduates will contest the full season with Bentley Team Parker Racing, as well mentoring support from Bentley’s works drivers.
The opening round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup kicks off on July 25-26th at Imola.
