British Touring Car Championship race winning team Ciceley Motorsport have announced a full season effort in the 2021 Intelligent Money British GT Championship. The Mercedes-Benz Trucks dealer and racing team have of course entered a Mercedes-AMG GT4 for a campaign which will run alongside their BMW 330i M-Sport campaign in the BTCC.
The driver line up for the outfit, which last raced in the British GT Championship at the Donington Decider for the 2018 season, includes two returning drivers. Dave Whitmore joins the team after a partial season in 2020. Whitmore was part of the only Am/Am pairing to contest the GT4 class last year, run by Century Motorsport under the Team Tegiwa banner.
He will be joined in the car by 2014 GT4 champion Jake Giddings. Along with co-driver Ross Wyle, Giddings took the title with three wins and three second places aboard their Beechdean AMR Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4. He then raced with JWB Motorsport for two years and has completed round by round entries since.
“It is great to be back on the British GT grid this year and I’m really looking forward to the challenge again,” Giddings said. “Having won the GT4 Championship back in 2014, I know the level of commitment and determination it takes to secure the title. And having raced with Ciceley Motorsport in the Dubai 24 Hour twice, I also know the team and the car really well.
“The car is not only fast but also meticulously prepared, so I am sure we will be competitive from the off. We have a comprehensive test schedule in place, and I am really looking forward to working with my new team-mate Dave Whitmore.”
Dave Whitmore added, “This will be my first full season competing in British GT – it’s been a dream of mine and my entire professional life has been focused on securing this seat!” he said. “The guys at Ciceley Motorsport are great, we have just finished our first test and I love the Mercedes GT4.”
