Laia Sanz on her four-wheel debut: “It’s definitely not easy”

“The Queen of the desert” is a well-known nickname that’s usually dedicated to Spanish motorcycle racer Laia Sanz, but this time she might have to lower down the title a little bit. In the series where other female drivers are competing to be the best, it’s going to be a tough journey considering her four-wheel experience is still lacking compared to others.

In the press conference before the second shakedown, Sanz openly admitted that it is not easy to control the car, having done most of her career on motorcycle.

“It would be my first championship ever (that I’ve done) in a car,” said Sanz. “Though racing in the desert helps me a little bit, I still have to manage my performance because unlike my usual job, I have two more wheels to control and it’s definitely not easy.”

“The bad thing is we didn’t have much time to test ourselves, but thanks to Carlos (Sainz) and the team we did lots and lots of training. Still need to do a huge learning though.”

“I have no experience in electric racing. Most of us are all new to this but we got to make sure we’ll keep learning.”

Laia Sanz will be competing in the series alongside four-time Dakar rally champion Carlos Sainz in Acciona Sainz XE team. The first round of Extreme E series, which takes place in the vast area of Al-Ula, officially kicks off on 3-4 April 2021.
