Sky Tempesta Racing will be returning to the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS series for 2021, with the squad fielding their distinctive Ferrari 488 GT3 in both the Endurance Cup and Sprint Cup. The aim of season will be for them to defend their hard-earned Pro-Am Cup titles secured during the disrupted 2020 season with hopefully the same level of dominance.
Chris Froggatt, Edward Cheever III and Jonathan Hui will return to contest the Endurance Cup, while Froggatt will be joined by a new team-mate in the form of 2020 Italian GT Endurance Champion, Giorgio Roda in the 2021 Sprint Cup. Roda is welcomed to the team with the 2018 European Le Mans Series LMGTE and 2014 GT Open GTS Championship titles to his name.
The Total 24 Hours of Spa will see the team once again be joined by former F1 driver and Ferrari GT stalwart Giancarlo Fisichella.
The team competed in last years GT World Challenge, contesting both the Endurance Cup and Sprint Cup in the Pro-Am category. Their returning drivers Froggatt and Cheever III claimed the Sprint Cup Pro-Am Drivers’ and Teams’ titles with five wins and eight podiums including a double win at Zandvoort. Three Pro-Am podium finishes were achieved in the Endurance Cup, including second-in-class at the Total 24 Hours of Spa. The culmination of results secured Sky Tempesta Racing the Pro-Am Teams’ title, while Froggatt and Cheever secured the Pro-Am Drivers’ title.
Chris Froggatt said: “Despite the delays and disruption to last season, the team did a fantastic job and we were thrilled to come away with the Pro-Am trophies. This year is all about building on that momentum and defending our title – I can’t wait to get back out on track. Alongside our established endurance trio of Eddie Cheever, Jonathan Hui and myself, I’m looking forward to welcoming our new team-mate Giorgio Roda. He has much experience of the 488 GT3 following last year’s Italian GT Endurance Championship, and I think we’ll be a formidable duo fighting for the Pro-Am title.”
