1 Mins read
British driver Alice Powell secured her first 2022 W Series pole position ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, going on to lead every lap and claim the race win.

It was the first time in 2022 that Jamie Chadwick was not stood on the top step of the podium, however she crossed the line in second place to extend her lead to 75 points as well as continued her streak of consecutive podium finishes.

Powell’s win means she is currently now on joint points with Beitske Visser in the drivers standings. Visser made it a second W Series 2022 podium finish in her career as she crossed the chequered flag to secure third place.

Heavy rain at the Hungaroring meant that the track was damp by the time the lights went out with the drivers following a safety car on the first lap. British driver Abbi Pulling claimed fifth position taking her to fourth in the championship and just three points behind her mentor Alice Powell.

Marta Garcia went on to take fourth, ahead of Pulling, whilst Fabienne Wohlwend secured sixth position. British drivers Sarah Moore and Abbie Eaton were behind, followed by Juju Noda, who socred her maiden W Series points. Bruna Tomaselli finished behind Noda to make the Hunagrian race top-10.

It was Jamie Chadwick‘s lowest qualifying position of 2022 however she managaed to pull of some impressive overtakes on track, taking her up to second place. Nerea Marti spun and hit a marker board at the start but managed to stay in the race. British racer Jessica Hawkins collided with Emma Kimiläinen at Turn 1 which meant she dropped down the field and unfortunately out of the points. W Series rookie driver Bianca Bustamante was forced to retire after she lost control of her car, hitting the barriers at Turn 9, meaning yellow flags were waved for the rest of the field.
