After four-straight seasons of going winless in the ARCA Menards Series West, Trevor Huddleston finally pulls through and wins his first race of the 2023 season, taking advantage of the leader’s problems in the final portion of the race and leading the final 63 laps. This was Huddleston’s third career win, and first career win for his family-owned team, High Point Racing.
“I’m too excited man,” stated Huddleston. “I’ve never been this out of breath, just from excitement.”
Although Huddleston won the race, the big excitement was the battle for the lead between pole-sitter Sean Hingorani and Landen Lewis. Hingorani and Lewis battled side-by-side for nearly 60 laps, with Hingorani eventually taking the lead on lap 64. His lead wouldn’t last for very long, because on lap 87, Hingorani hit the outside wall in turn 3, ultimately ending his night in 12th place.
With Hingorani out of the race, Lewis had a bigger shot of winning, until more trouble took place. On the following restart, Lewis was penalized by ARCA for jumping the start, forcing him to the rear of the field as the last car on the lead lap. Lewis struggled to get back to the front, and ended up finishing in 9th.
After Lewis’ penalty, Huddleston took over the lead, and led the final 63 laps to win the race.
Eric Nascimento Jr., driving for his family-owned Nascimento Motorsports, would have a career night and finish in the runner-up position, after starting in eighth. After a stressful season, Tanner Reif fought with a tight car all race and finished third, the best finish for him and Bill McAnally Racing this season.
“On the restart, we just sent it down to the bottom, but the car was too tight,” stated Reif. “This was a good race for us this year, we’ve been struggling, and this was a really good result for us.”
Todd Souza recorded his best of the finish of the season in fourth place, with Robbie Kennealy, making his first ARCA West start, rounding out the top five. Tyler Reif, Jake Bollman, Nick Joanides, Landen Lewis, and Takuma Koga would round out the top ten.
The next race in the ARCA Menards Series West will take place at Shasta Speedway on 29 July, the first time in which the series will visit the track since 2015.
