HRT failed to see both cars to the end of the race for the second time in two races. Pedro de la Rosa was able to finish eighteenth, yet team mate Narain Karthikeyan was forced to retire with a undisclosed mechanical problem.
It was mixed feelings at Red Bull as Sebastian Vettel moved a step closer to a possible third World Title, whilst Mark Webber was hindered by a tangle with Romain Grosjean on the opening lap.
Caterham enjoyed a solid if unspectacular run in Japan to see both cars to the chequered flag once again this season. Heikki Kovalainen was able to capitalise on the first corner carnage to finish fifteenth, with team mate Vitaly Petrov finishing seventeenth.
Force India was able to pick up some more points courtesy of Nico Hulkenberg. The German, who had showed strong form in the Friday practice sessions, rebounded from a crash on Saturday morning to finish in seventh place. Paul di Resta was twelfth.
It was a tale of contrasting fortunes for both Williams drivers at the Japanese Grand Prix. Pastor Maldonado enjoyed a trouble free run to collect his first points since his victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, but Bruno Senna had a tougher time of it.
Mercedes came away from the Japanese Grand Prix having scored no points. Nico Rosberg was eliminated in a crash on the first lap, whilst Michael Schumacher valiantly raced his way through the pack from twenty third on the grid, but ultimately finished just outside the points in eleventh.
Scuderia Toro Rosso came away from the Japanese Grand Prix with a point after Daniel Ricciardo was able to finish tenth. Despite coming under pressure from Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher in the last few laps of the race, the Australian hung on to claim another point’s finish.
Sauber enjoyed a strong day at the Japanese Grand Prix today. It was disappointment for Sergio Perez, who spun off whilst battling McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, but Kamui Kobayashi gave the Japanese crowd their dream with his first ever podium finish.
After starting 20th after his retirement from the second race Jason Plato romped through the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) field to take a second win of the day at Silverstone.
In a perfect role reversal from the day’s opening race a mechanical issue dropped Jason Plato out of a clear lead of race two, handing Mat Jackson a first victory for the Motorbase Performance built NGTC Ford Focus at the end of a stellar drive from 17th on the grid.
