Rookie MacDowall looking to 2010 in BTCC

1 Mins read

After a successful test run in the Motorbase Performance BMW 320si E90 at Brands Hatch earlier this week Alex MacDowall is looking to a move to BTCC for 2010.

The 18-year-old Elf Renault Clio Cup Vice-champion enjoyed his first taste of a current BTCC car with Dave Bartrum’s race-winning team yesterday (17 Nov).

Having put in some impressive laps after adapting from his front-wheel drive Clio to the more powerful rear-wheel drive BMW, MacDowall was credited with doing “a great job” by Bartrum.

“The test was fantastic and I want to say a big thank you to everyone at Motorbase for helping things go so smoothly”, said MacDowall, “ The BMW is obviously a completely different car to what I've been used to the last couple of years in Renault Clios but I didn't have any problems adapting to the rear-wheel drive. The increased grip was one of the biggest differences.

“Jonathan Adam (Motorbase BTCC driver and former ELF Renault Clio Cup Champion), with whom I've worked closely this year, set a benchmark time for me to aim for and when we compared data I'd matched what he'd done which was a great boost. We're considering our options for next year but if we are able to secure the financial backing, it's possible we could be on the BTCC grid.”
