Vasiliauskas Fastest In Wet Second Practice At Valencia

1 Mins read

Lithuanian Kazim Vasiliauskas set the fastest time in the second Formula Two practice session at Valencia, in a session affected by rain at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.

Vasiliauskas went to the top of the timesheets with his first flying lap as the session started on a dry track. Sergey Afanasiev took top spot briefly, before Vasiliauskas went quickest again. His time would not be bettered during the rest of the 30 minute session, as no sooner had he taken the lead of the session, did the rain begin to fall.

Championship leader Dean Stoneman was able to get a fast lap under his belt just as the rain came down, giving him second place. The rain caused most of the field to come into the pits and wait to see if the weather was going to improve.

Many of the drivers spent the rest of the session going round on wet tyres, but Stoneman and Afanasiev opted to stay on slicks, with Stoneman completing more laps than any other driver.

Ivan Samarin and Will Bratt ended the session in fourth and fifth positions respectively. Kelvin Snoeks was sixth, ahead of Nicola De Marco and Benjamin Bailly. Angolan Ricardo Teixeira was ninth fastest. Ramon Pineiro, who is making his F2 race debut this weekend, rounded out the top ten.

Stoneman's championship rival Jolyon Palmer ended up in last position of the 19 runners, having failed to complete a flying lap in dry conditions.

After the session, Vasiliauskas said: “The grip was good when I did my lap. The time wasn’t special, but I think the other drivers saw the rain and thought that they needed to brake or go slower, but I kept pushing.”
