Michael Herck topped the timesheets on the final day of the end-of-season GP2 Series tests at Abu Dhabi on Sunday, on the final appearance for his family-owned DPR team. The test also marked the last run of the GP2/08 car and Bridgestone tyres.
The Romanian driver's quickest time of 1:47.138 set in the afternoon session was faster than anybody else had gone around the Yas Marina circuit over the four days of testing. With DPR having lost its place on the GP2 grid for 2011, Herck will join Coloni for next season.
Fabio Leimer had set the pace on Wednesday and Saturday driving for champion team Rapax, but had to settle for second behind Herck on Sunday, having had his morning times wiped after running underweight. With the track evolving during the week, most of the weeks' quickest times were set on Sunday afternoon, with Josef Kral third fastest for iSport and Alexander Rossi fourth for Racing Engineering.
British driver James Jakes set the pace on the opening day on Tuesday, but found himself well down the order on Sunday.
A total of 39 drivers took part in the four days of testing during the week. GP2 now begins its winter break, with pre-season testing taking place at Yas Marina on February 2, using the new GP2/11 car, ahead of the GP2 Asia Series season.
