Hamilton Returns To Renault BARC for 2011

1 Mins read

Sportscar ace Archie Hamilton is set to return to the Formula Renault BARC series in 2011. The youngster last raced in the series in 2009, but will reappear as he aims to get maximum track time and race experience from his available budget for the season.

Hamilton competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, British GT and Britcar series over the course of 2010 as he looks to fulfil his ultimate ambition of winning Le Mans. He believes that racing the slicks and wings Formula Renault machine will help him in his preparation for a future in prototype racing.

Despite it not being confirmed which team he will be racing for, Hamilton has stated he will begin testing in the next couple of months and has expressed his desire to win the championship. Funds permitting, Hamilton is also looking to compete in some rounds of the Le Mans Series in the year.

Commenting on the decision, Hamilton said: “While I had a great time last season I have to face reality and make the most of the funding I have. I recognise that I'm in a very fortunate position as there are so many drivers out there looking for sponsorship in a very difficult financial climate. I know that Formula Renault is something that I'm comfortable with but still provides the challenge and this year I'm looking to learn and win and spend as much time out on track as possible. Formula Renault is my main focus to improve my race craft and if we can put together a Le Mans Series race deal later on in the season it will be a bonus.”
