New Team To Join Formula Renault BARC Grid

1 Mins read

A new team, Team Zest, has announced plans to mount a two car assault on the 2011 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship, as interest continues to grow in the series for the forthcoming season.

The team will be run in partnership by Malcolm Cleland and Ian Goff. Goff has experience in the series, having worked under Triple 888 in 2010, while Cleland is a newcomer to single seaters, after working in saloon-car racing for over ten years.

As they look to get on the pace as quickly as possible, the team are pushing forward with their preparations for the new season. A first driver signing is close to completion, with testing due to commence in mid February, with a three day session in Spain.

Cleland said: “Although to some extent 2011 will be a learning year, we've certainly not joined the championship to make up the numbers. We're looking to be amongst the top three by the end of the season together with some race wins under our belt.”

“The championship is shaping up to be a great season this year and we're excited to be getting involved and to be able to race in one that promises such strong grids.”

The 2011 season is set to be one of the strongest to date for the Formula Renault BARC series, with over twenty cars expected to line up for the season opener at Donington Park in April.

Championship Promoter Simon North added: “Interest is really mounting for the series this year. It's very encouraging to see a new team joining our paddock, along with new privateers such as Max Robinson, as the spirit of Formula Renault has always been a strong blend of different types of entrant.”
