Van Der Garde Quickest On Day 2 In Abu Dhabi

2 Mins read

Giedo van der Garde set the fastest time on the second day of pre-season testing for GP2 Asia, held at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit.

After Day 1 was hit first by a sandstorm and later by rain, Day 2 began with fog, delaying the morning session by an hour. Once the session got underway it was ART's Jules Bianchi who ended the morning at the top of the timesheets, with Addax's van der Garde second and Sam Bird third for iSport.

In the afternoon session the name at the top of the leaderboard changed throughout, as the track conditions continually improved. Van der Garde cut around one and a half seconds from his fastest morning time to end the day quickest, with Bird second and Bianchi third. Van der Garde's Addax teammate Charles Pic was fourth fastest, with Davide Valsecchi fifth for newcomers Team AirAsia. The session was cut short by 15 minutes after James Jakes went off the track and damaged a barrier.

Pre-season testing will resume on Sunday 6 February, with the fourth and final day on Monday 7 February.
