Daniel De Jong All Set For FR3.5 Bow At Aragon

1 Mins read

Dutch racer Daniel De Jong begins the next step in his single-seater career when he makes his debut in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series at Motorland Aragon in Spain this weekend.

The 18-year-old was a frontrunner in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 in 2010, and also scored a race win from a handful of starts in the Formula Renault Northern European Cup.

For 2011 De Jong has made the step up to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, signing for the Comtec Racing team.

“I'm so excited to be racing in Formula Renault 3.5 this year, it's the next logical step on the career ladder for me and a proven place to develop your skills and get noticed by the F1 team bosses”, said De Jong. “I'm really looking forward to the first round at the weekend, it's going to be incredible.

“Obviously it's going to be unbelievably tough in my first year, there are some very quick drivers in the championship. My aim is to learn as much as possible in the first few events and then start moving up the order as the season goes on. It's a big challenge and a really exciting one.”

De Jong used the three pre-season tests to adapt to the increased power of the 480bhp 3.5 litre car, showing particularly well at both Motorland Aragon and Circuit de Catalunya.
