Gelzinis and Meadows Share Donington Poles

1 Mins read

Jonas Gelzinis and Michael Meadows will start Rounds three and four of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB from pole position after topping the timesheets in a close qualifying session at Donington Park.

For the first race, just nine hundredths of a second split the three fastest runners, with Juta Racing's Gelzinis leading Team Parker Racing's Sam Tordoff and SAS/Redline's Meadows. Brands Hatch race winner Euan Hankey lines up fourth, ahead of James Sutton and championship leader Stephen Jelley.

Round four will see Meadows joined on the front row by former Clio Cup race winner Tordoff, with Gelzinis this time third. SAS/Redlines Sutton lines up fourth, with Parker with Juta's Hankey and reigning champion Tim Harvey completing row three.

In Pro-Am1, Gelzinis' superb pace sees him way clear of his rivals, with the next two class runners Ahmad Al-Harthy and Derek Pierce lining up eleventh and twelfth respectively in both races.  In Pro-Am2, Andrew Shelley leads the way, lining up fifteenth and seventeenth in the two races, with his two nearest rivals George Brewster and Keith Webster eighteenth and nineteenth respectively for both.

Lithuanian Gelzinis said: “The luck is still with me. I love this circuit and it was even better on my second set of tyres.”

Former Porsche Scholarship winner Meadows commented:  “That’s fantastic; my first pole in Carrera Cup. But I had no idea as my lap times were not coming up on the display.”

Tordoff added:  “That’s mega; we had the pace in testing, but we didn’t string a lap together. I knew if I could piece it all together we’d be up there.”
