Herck Quickest As GP2 Pre-Season Testing Ends

2 Mins read

Michael Herck recorded the fastest time on the second day of the GP2 Series test at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya, as pre-season testing for 2011 came to a conclusion.

Championship hopeful Jules Bianchi set the early pace in the morning session for ART. Luiz Razia then bettered Bianchi's lap by eight hundredths of a second, before AirAsia teammate Davide Valsecchi, who topped the timesheets on the first day of the test, went quickest. Scuderia Coloni driver Herck later went quickest, where he remained until the end of the session. Sam Bird was second for iSport, with Romain Grosjean third for Dams. Valsecchi ended up fourth, one place ahead of fellow Italian Luca Filippi. The morning session was a very close affair, with the top eighteen drivers all covered by a second.

In the afternoon it was Marcus Ericsson who was quickest for much of the session for iSport, before Bianchi returned to the top spot. It would be Valsecchi who would end the session in first position though, going three tenths quicker than Bianchi. Davide Rigon got himself into second for Coloni and ahead of Bianchi. Ericsson ended up fourth, with Razia rounding out the top five for the final pre-season test session.

The opening round of the 2011 GP2 Series takes place at Istanbul on 6-8 May.
