Jani To Defend Belgian Team’s Superleague Crown

1 Mins read

Swiss driver Neel Jani has confirmed that he will race in the 2011 Superleague Formula Nations Cup, driving the Belgium – RSC Anderlecht car, which in 2010 won the title in the hands of Davide Rigon. The car is run by the Azerti outfit.

Jani will hope to repeat the success he enjoyed in the now-defunct A1 Grand Prix series, where he won the title in 2008. He has also driven in Champ Car, GP2 and was a test driver for the Toro Rosso Formula 1 team.

“I’m really happy to compete in Superleague Formula with Azerti,” said Jani. “I drove in a couple of races last year and the Superleague Formula car is a fantastic car to race. The level of competition of teams and drivers is very high and I’m looking forward to getting the season underway at Assen. I will certainly try to defend the championship crown and match the success Davide Rigon.”

Jani joins Yelmer Buurman at Azerti, with the latter racing for Netherlands – PSV Eindhoven. Azerti's Wim Coekelbergs is delighted to have Jani join his team.

“It’s fantastic news that we have been able to make a deal with Neel,” said Coekelbergs. “I have complete confidence in the season ahead, because together with Yelmer Buurman (Netherlands – PSV Eindhoven) we once again have a great line-up.”

The Superleague Formula Nations Cup gets underway at Assen in the Netherlands this weekend (4/5 June).
