Sutton and Jelley On Top In Porsche’s At Oulton

2 Mins read

James Sutton won his third consecutive Porsche Carrera Cup GB race with victory in Round Seven at Oulton Park, before Stephen Jelley returned to the top step of the podium for the first time since the opening rounds of the season, winning Round Eight in tricky conditions.

Race one saw Sutton benefit from the late demise of his team-mate Michael Meadows, who led from pole and built a small advantage at the front, with Sutton coming under constant pressure from Parker with Juta's Jelley. Meadows led for the first 16 laps of the 18 lap race, until he was the first to find coolant dropped by Team Parker Racing's Sam Tordoff at Knickerbrook.

Meadows slid off onto the grass, allowing Sutton to dive in and take the lead, with Meadows recovering in time to hold off Jelley, however another trip to the grass on the final lap allowed Jelley through into second. Finishing fourth was Motorbase's Michael Caine, surviving contact with Jonas Gelzinis at the hairpin which damaged his real wheel. Gelzinis took the Pro-Am 1 category win in fifth, ahead of Richard Plant and fellow Pro-Am 1 runner Ahmad Al-Harthy.

Reigning Scholarship winner Benji Hetherington took eighth, with Euan Hankey ninth after an early excursion through the gravel at Druids, while Rory Butcher completed the top ten and the Pro-Am 1 podium. Eleventh on his Porsche debut was Kieran Vernon, who was making his first appearance in the place of Tim Harvey in the #1 Nationwide car. In Pro-Am 2, Andrew Shelley took the win after a late move on Steve Parish, with Keith Webster third for Redline Racing.

Race two saw Jelley dive into the lead at the start ahead of Meadows and Sutton. He began to pull the clear as the SAS pair started coming under pressure from Caine, who got past Parker with Juta's Hankey early on. It wasn't to change at the front for the remainder of the race, with Jelley pulling clear to win by 4.9s, with Meadows a solid second and Sutton holding off Caine's advances to complete the podium.

Caine also had to look in his mirrors as charging up behind was Celtic Speed's Butcher, however he held onto fourth for his best result of the season so far. Butcher ended a superb fifth to take the Pro-Am 1 class win, with the performance earning him the 'driver of the weekend' award.

Hankey took sixth ahead of Plant and Al Harthy, who once again finished runner up in Pro-Am 1. George Richardson finished ninth to complete the Pro-Am 1 podium, with Tordoff completing the top ten ahead of Vernon. In an exciting Pro-Am 2 contest, Webster recovered from an excursion on the grass and a lap one clash with George Brewster to win, with Parish surviving a moment to take second, with Brewster third.
