Williamson Quickest Again On Day 2 Of Hungaroring Test

2 Mins read

Lewis Williamson repeated his speed from the opening day of the official GP3 Series test at the Hungaroring by posting the quickest time on the second and final day.

Fellow Brits James Calado (ART) and Alexander Sims (Status) were setting the early pace during the morning session together with Williamson’s MW Arden teammate Mitch Evans and Jenzer‘s Nico Muller. Williamson took top spot just before the half hour mark. The fastest times remained largely unchallenged for the remainder of the session as teams concentrated on setup rather than outright pace.

That allowed Williamson to remain on top, with Adrian Quaife-Hobbs moving up to second for Manor. Muller, Calado, Evans and Sims were next up, ahead of Carlin‘s Conor Daly and Tom Dillmann of Addax. Rounding out the top ten were the third MW Arden car of Simon Trummer and ART’s Valtteri Bottas.

The afternoon saw the quickest times almost a second slower than those from the morning as teams and drivers concentrated on race simulations and setups again. Williamson once again went to the top of the timesheets early on, remaining there until Muller went quickest at the half-way point. The Scot soon reclaimed his place in first though. The circuit was doused with rain with around one hour remaining, though it was short-lived at the cars did return to the track.

Bottas snatched the top spot on his final flying lap, preventing a lockout of all four sessions for MW Arden as Williamson was bumped down to second ahead of teammate Trummer. Muller was fourth, ahead of Tech 1‘s Aaro Vainio, Evans, Michael Christensen (Mucke), with Dillmann and the remaining Mucke cars of Luciano Bacheta and points leader Nigel Melker.
