2011 British Touring Car Championship Independents champion James Nash took his first Formula Ford win since 2007 during an impressive showing in the 2011 Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone.
Nash has plenty of Formula Ford experience in his locker, having raced in Formula Ford in 2006 and 2007, finishing second in the Walter Hayes Trophy in 2006. This years running of the event saw Nash competing in a Formula Ford 2000 Van Diemen RF82 engineered and run by Simon Green Motorsport.
Racing on the National Circuit, Nash enjoyed a good start to the weekend in qualifying, leading the session until the last lap when he was just pushed into second. A flying start in the race saw Nash lead into Copse corner, maintaining the lead until Maggotts, where he was re-passed. A lap later, Nash exacted his revenge and regained the lead, holding on until the end for victory, setting the fastest lap of the race.
Nash commented: “I was beating myself up a bit after qualifying as I'm never that happy taking second place but it's how your perform in the race that counts and winning meant a lot to me. Since September, I have won the BTCC independent Championship, a British Touring Car Race, a GT4 Race and now the Walter Hayes 2000 trophy, I can't wait to get back in the car, probably in the Dubai 24 Hours.”
