Nigel Mansell and Adrian Newey have received awards in the Queen’s New Years Honours list, it has been announced today.
Mansell, who had already been given the OBE for services to Motorsport, is today awarded with the CBE for services to Children and Young People. The 1992 world champion is president of the charity UK Youth, and this year raised £1 million by cycling 1,375 miles around Britain.
Newey, Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull, receives an OBE for services to Motorsport. The 53-year-old has designed championship-winning cars at Williams and McLaren and, since moving to his current job in Milton Keynes, has masterminded the RB6 and RB7 – the two cars that have helped Sebastian Vettel claim back-to-back title wins.
In total, Newey-designed cars have won eight Constructors’ championships. The first of these came in 1992 with the Williams FW14B, driven by Riccardo Patrese… and Nigel Mansell.
