Formula Renault BARC driver Victor Jiminez is switching to sportcars for 2012 to contest the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with Redline Racing.
Though the 27-year-old ended his time in the BARC ranks by clinching the class title at the winter Finals Series he now believes his future lies away from single seaters, beginning with a move to the front-running Carrera Cup team.
Speaking to The Checkered Flag at the Carrera Cup test on the Silverstone National circuit on March 13 he admitted the task of growing used to the car could take some time, though he showed pace on the day, lapping within a second of the Pro-Am1 pace setter Ahmed Al-Harthy, who enters his third season in the championship having, coincidentally, also joined the series after Formula Renault BARC campaigns. Jiminez's aim for the season is to score overall podiums.
His new Redline Racing teammate Michael Meadows set the overall pace on the test day, lapping the 1.64 mile circuit in 55.035 seconds in damp, cold conditions.
The Porsche Carrera Cup GB supports the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and is included in ITV4's live coverage of race days throughout the season, starting with the opening races at Brands Hatch on April 1.
