Williams gave their team principal an early birthday present today in China by scoring their first double-points finish since the Korean Grand Prix in 2010.

On the eve of Sir Frank Williams‘ 70th birthday, Bruno Senna and Pastor Maldonado finished seventh and eighth to give the team a further 10 points in the Constructors’ championship.

“I am so happy for the whole team,” said Chief Operations Engineer Mark Gillan. “It is a an excellent result to get both cars into the points, the culmination of everyone's hard work and dedication, coupled with great drives by both drivers to manage their tyres and make a  two-stop strategy work.

Senna started from fourteenth on the grid today, but a well executed two-stop strategy propelled the Brazilian up the field and allowed him to finish ahead of his team-mate.

“It was a great result for the team to finish with two cars in the points today,” he said. “It was a tough race and tyre wear was high. Our strategy worked for us today but we're still learning and improving together. We aim to continue to get better throughout the next few races.

Maldonado agreed that is was a difficult race today in Shanghai, but was also happy to add some more points to both his tally and the team’s. It was very tough today,” said the Venezuelan. “I lost places at the start and it was difficult to overtake but we had good pace. We were able to fight all the way to the end so I'm happy to get some points. It was a great result for the team.
