Lloyd Ready For Knockhill Return

2 Mins read

It will be Daniel Lloyd’s second trip to Knockhill in his racing career this weekend, for rounds 13 and 14 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, but the Huddersfield racer sees qualifying the key to success in the weekend’s two races.

Twenty-year-old Lloyd, heads to the Scottish circuit fifth in the championship on 140 points, with a race win and two podium victories under his belt and is keen to add to his huge success in the championship as a rookie.

Lloyd is determined to add more silverware to his collection this weekend, he said: “I like Knockhill it’s a good track, quite a short track and so our races will be about 34 laps each which should make them quite interesting – they’ll be quite physically demanding.. It’s a really unique place, very much a stop-start track and so very different to the last couple of circuits we’ve visited.”

His only experience at Knockhill prior to this weekend’s Porsche Carrera Cup GB rounds came in his maiden season of racing in the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2008. The then 16-year-old qualified on pole and turned it into a win in the second race of the weekend at the Fife circuit – marking himself out as a racing star in the making.

Lloyd’s only prior experience of the undulating Fife track, which is situated near Dunfermline, came in 2008 during his maiden season of car racing in the Ginetta Junior Championship but he quickly got to grips with the renowned twists and turns of the 1.27-mile circuit:

“I honestly can’t remember much about Knockhill from back in my Ginetta Junior days but I’m sure we’ll be competitive from the off next weekend”, he added, “We’ll head up to Scotland with the same attitude as always, wanting to get back on the podium – it’s about time we had another one!”

Back to this weekend coming, Lloyd ponders his master plan: “I really need to nail qualifying, my race pace is really good and I’m happy with how everything is going where that’s concerned but you’ve got to get qualifying right. It’s such an important part of the weekend so I’m going to be concentrating really hard on getting that right and hopefully the rest will follow.”

Round 13 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship is scheduled to start at 10.45 on Sunday, 26th August, with round 14 beginning at 15.30. Both races are aired on ITV4 and ITV4 HD as well as www.itv.com/btcc
