Formula Ford Joins BTCC Bill For 2013

1 Mins read

The British Formula Ford Championship will join the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship support race package next season as single-seater racing returns to the BTCC bill after a year out.

The historic championship, seen as the natural move to single-seater racing for budding young drivers, has been won by the likes of Ayrton Senna and Jenson Button, and has previously been on the TOCA schedule.

Formula Renault UK was due to be a part of the package this season but the series was canned after a poor number of entries, and will not run again in 2013. Its sister championship, Formula Renault BARC, supported the BTCC at Silverstone.

Series Director Alan Gow said of the three-year agreement: “I am delighted to have Formula Ford back supporting the BTCC. For many seasons Formula Ford provided some of the best support event racing we have ever seen and I have no doubt that we will see many more of those gloriously competitive races driven by some future F1 stars.

“This is an incredibly positive step for the championship, its teams and our huge audiences and spectators. It’s very much a case of ‘welcome home’ Formula Ford.”
