After wrapping up the Sunoco Rolex 24 at Daytona Challenge after dominant season in the Speed EuroSeries Ivan Bellarosa will take his first steps towards taking his prize drive in the 51st Rolex 24 At Daytona when he tests with Action Express Racing at Virginia International Raceway next week.
Driving for the Avelon Formula Bellarosa swept to the EuroSeries title with eight wins from nine races, to become the winner of the Rolex 24 at Daytona Challenge after inaugural winner Derek Johnston and Felipe Nasr.
The Italian will follow in the footsteps of Nasr who tested the #58 Daytona Prototype with the Action Express team who won the 2010 Rolex 24 and scored two wins in the 2012 season in their first year with the new Chevrolet Corvette DP.
“I am honoured to be able to carry out the first test with a great team such as Action Express,” said Bellarosa. “I am very curious to drive the car as I’m used to much lighter and less powerful cars – but I’m feeling confident! I plan to work hard with the team and Max Papis to ensure that we get both the best out of me and the car.”
Aiding Bellarosa’s transition from the CN Prototypes he normally races to the Daytona Prototype will be his fellow Italian Max Papis, who drove for Action Express in the 50th edition of the race last January.
Following his test at VIR on November 6-7 Bellarosa will get his first running at Daytona International Speedway on November 13-14.
