Sunoco Grand–Am 200 Challenge winner Lawrence Davey is to take his prize drive at Daytona International Speedway with Mitchum Motorsport, at the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro in the GS class of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race at the Florida track.
Davey won his way to Daytona beating other British club-level racers in a contest organised by fuel company Sunoco, who provide the fuel for both the Grand-Am championships and several UK and European series.
“I am really looking forward to getting in the car,” said Davey, who won the Legends championship in 2012. “I have been practicing a lot on iracing and by watching videos on YouTube, now I can’t wait to see what the track is like in person! Mitchum have been really helpful in the lead up to the test, supplying me with information on the car and the track which has given me more confidence to get in the car and deliver a good performance.”
Davey will share the car with 26-year-old American driver Mike Skeen, starting with the three day ‘Roar Before the 24’ test – Davey’s first taste of the high banked Daytona track before the Continental Tire 200 race later this month.
In racing with Mitchum Motorsport Davey follows the first Grand-Am 200 Challenge winner Aaron Steele, who joined the team for the 2012 event. His race, however, ended prematurely when gearbox failure intervened.
