MOMO-Megatron will field two brand new Porsche 991 GT3 Cup cars in this season’s Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
The US based team have signed 2005 champion Alessandro (Alex) Zampedri and former Dutch Supercar Vice Champion Jochen Habets to lead their campaign. There will also be two opportunities for 2010 Belgian Belcar Endurance Champion Dylan Derdaele to race in the series as he will stand in for Zampedri at the Nurburgring and Spa.
Of the deal Zampedri said: “I am really excited to be back for another season in the Supercup with the MOMO-Megatron Team. I have known Andreas for a long time through our Champ Car activities in the U.S. and am really excited to work with him in this new venture. New team, new car, my 15th season…it sounds great!”
Team mate Habets said: “I am happy that I am a part of the MOMO-Megatron Team. The Porsche Supercup is one of the most famous one-make series of equal cars and a lot of works drivers came out of this class. It will be a hard Championship for us but we will do all we can to get into the top ten. I want to thank MOMO-Megatron for this opportunity.”
MOMO-Megatron team manager Andreas Laberle said: “Firstly, we want to thank the entire Porsche Mobil1 Supercup Management Team to welcome our American entry into their Series. Their daily assistance, marketing efforts, hospitality, and support has been incredible, and very much appreciated. After evaluating the professional environment Porsche has created, MOMO, Megatron and our partners feel that this Series is the best place to showcase our products. With the new Porsche 991 Supercup car, the Porsche Hospitality, and Formula 1 environment, the Supercup is a great place to be in motor racing — on and off the track!
“Secondly, we are excited to have these specific drivers as part of the MOMO-Megatron Team. Alex Zampedri is very competitive, a first class driver and person. He will be a great leader to show the team and the young guns a few tricks. Jochen and Dylan will have an opportunity to show their talent. We have a lot of work in front of us to establish them and the Team to be competitive against a very experienced group, but we are looking forward to the challenge and a great season.”
The Porsche Supercup begins on the 12th May at Barcelona as support to the Spanish Grand Prix.
