Zoe Wenham Blog: Oulton Park Is Just Around The Corner

Hi everyone,

The opening Oulton Park round is just around the corner and I’m hoping the snow vanishes before then! Earlier this month I was testing at Zandvoort with Century Motorsport and Declan as we were asked to take the car to the GT4 BOP (balance of performance) testing. It meant a chance for us to get on track before Oulton and in between the testing we jumped at the chance. Fortunately for me, as this is the only testing I have done prior to this season, it gave me a chance to get back in the car before a race meeting as we are now just a week to go.

It was two days of dry weather testing and I have raced there previously, although it was all new for Declan. I love the track, but it was a whole new ball game around the fast back section in a faster, rear wheel drive car than in a Golf! I was struggling on day one, not only was it different to the VW but being a left hand drive it took me a few sessions to get used to it. Between the end of day one and first session of day two, I studied video footage to see where I was losing time, and when I got back in the car on day two I had found 2 seconds, I thought it was a miracle!

Testing finished in the afternoon of day 2 with the BOP (balance of performance) test taking place at lunch time. There were few different cars at the test. There was a Lotus, a Nissan, an Aston Martin and a Chevrolet Camaro, along with a couple of others that also knew their way round the track from racing in the Dutch GT Championship.

I am really looking forward to Oulton Park and hoping to bring the pace that we both had abroad back to the UK, to bring home the first two good results of the season with my sponsors and sponsors guests there to witness. I am looking forward to entertaining all the Laird Assessors, Geometric Manufacturing and Fadal CNC guests and getting back into the racing environment.
