Formula Vee Ace Selected As Dunlop Young Driver of the Month

1 Mins read

Following strong performances in Formula Vee, Colm Blackburn has been selected as the Dunlop Young Driver of the Month for July.

The 23-year-old from Ballyfermont took a fourth in the final of the Formula Vee Championships at Mondello Park before finishing fifth in the final of the Vee Festival, the most important race of the year. He also took a win and a second place in the heats and semi finals en route to the respective finals.

Blackburn currently holds second place in the Dunlop class championship, just one point behind the leader following wins at Kirkistown and Mondello Park. He is also seventh in the Crowne Plaza Dundalk Championship, racing much more experienced Vee aces.

Blackburn’s racing career began halfway through 2011 before winning the 2012 Formula Vee Novice Championship in his first full year. His selection as the Young Driver of the Month puts him in contention for the prestigious Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year Award and the Sexton Trophy.
