Katherine Legge used her Road America experience to full effect in qualifying for the American Le Mans Series, setting the third fastest P1 time and fourth fastest overall.
Legge, who has raced at Road America three times before, could only get out for a time at the very end of the session due to a pit lane penalty, but one lap was all it took for Legge to set a 1:55.362 and take the DeltaWing to the second row of the grid.
“It was a bit of pressure, knowing that I really had to hustle on the out lap just to get to the qualifying lap,” said Legge. “I couldn’t afford to make any mistakes, so I made sure the Bridgestone tires were up to temperature and just went for it. There was no choice but to get it done, because all eyes were on us. In the end, we showed that when it counts, we can really get the job done.”
DeltaWing’s second driver, Andy Meyrick, has never driven at Road America prior to this weekend, meaning he had to watch Legge take the 15-minute session and learn from his team-mate as best he could.
“This track really does suit us,” commented Meyrick. “It’s a new circuit for me, but I’ve gotten up to speed pretty quickly. The car is well balanced, the Bridgestone tires are working well and the speed is there, so we feel really positive for the race.”
