Meadows Secures Double Knockhill Pole

1 Mins read

Michael Meadows continued his excellent 2013 qualifying form by claiming double pole position at Knockhill for rounds 13 & 14 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB on Saturday.

The Samsung Smart Motorsport driver lapped the circuit in a best time of 50.445s, the fastest ever lap in a Carrera Cup car recorded at the Scottish track, and backed it up with the best second fastest time to take his pole position tally to 12 this season.

He said: “That’s great pace and I’m really happy with our overall speed. Now I need two good starts for the races as it is tough to overtake here.”

Home hero Rory Butcher pushed Meadows hard, lapping just over a tenth shy of his record pace, and securing two second place starts as a result.

Butcher said: “I finally got a couple of good laps in at the end of the session. I knew I had it in the car, but I didn’t think we’d do it so late in the session. I’m happy with that at my home track and it’s the fastest I’ve ever gone here. Now I just want to get a good start.”

Redline Racing’s Dean Stoneman will start both races from third on the grid but was unlucky not to be on the front row for the second race as he matched Butcher’s second fastest time.

Dan Lloyd managed two fourth places despite a spin into the gravel which brought out the red flag with less than ten minutes of the session remaining.

Jonas Gelzinis, who came into the weekend as joint championship leader could only qualify fifth for both races.

Victor Jiminez set the pace in Pro-Am1 ahead of team mate Dan De Zille and Celtic Speed’s George Brewster.

Both races will be held on Sunday at 10:15 and 16:15 with the latter being broadcast live on ITV4.
