Risi Competizione are preparing for a return to American Le Mans Series action, having missed the previous round of the season at Mosport.
Olivier Beretta will be full of experience as he looks to take the Ferrari 458 Italia to his fourth class victory at Road America, while team-mate Matteo Malucelli will be making his debut at the popular circuit at Elkhart Lake.
The circuit features a more traditional European style layout, with fast sweeping turns and long straights. It is the fastest circuit on the ALMS calendar, with speeds expected to reach 160mph around the 4.05 mile track, with laptimes just over two minutes long.
Strategy will have a major part to play in the outcome of the race, with full course cautions a rarity and the track being relatively friendly to tyres. With a strong GT field expected, Risi know that they will have to try extra hard, even if the Ferrari may be more suited to the fast, flowing nature of Road America.
“This will be another fierce GT2 battle with the Porsches, BMWs, Vipers and Corvettes all having good top speed which is key here with the numerous fast sections,” said a Risi Competizione spokesperson. “We are expected to have much closer top speed parity than in previous years, but staying out of trouble will be vital as there are several pro driver pairings who can win GT. The size of the circuit doesn’t translate to too many laps in practice so it’s always a challenge to get the best car with the time available.”
