Oreca celebrated its 40th anniversary by showing itself as the dominant force in LMP2 competition.
Using a Nissan V8 engine, prepared by the Oreca engine department in Magny Cours, the Oreca 03 LMP2 machine took four out of five victories in the European Le Mans Series and six out of eight victories in the FIA World Endurance Championship. To round out its 40th anniversary celebrations, the Oreca 03 finished third overall at Bahrain, standing alongside the LMP1 manufacturer efforts of Audi and Toyota.
Oreca’s eight wins in thirteen races, including victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, resulted in a 77% success rate for the season. Signatech-Alpine and drivers Pierre Ragues and Nelson Panciatici also took their Oreca 03 to victory in the Teams’ and Drivers’ European Le Mans Championships respectively. G-Drive Racing also won the LMP2 Teams’ Trophy in the WEC with its Oreca machine.
Six separate teams, representing five different nationalities, took their Oreca chassis to victory throughout the 2013 season, with wins for Delta-ADR, G-Drive Racing, Murphy Prototypes, Pecom Racing, Signatech-Alpine and Thiriet by TDS Racing.
Since its debut in February 2011, the Oreca 03 has taken 18 victories, ten of which came in 2013, although the team know it will be tough to replicate the impressive record in 2014. However, the 03 will be well represented across the globe in 2014, with entries confirmed in the WEC, ELMS as well as at least one entry confirmed for the inaugural year of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
