FIA World Rallycross Championship Adds RX Lites As Support Class

1 Mins read

IMG Motorsport has confirmed the addition of RX Lites to the support package for the inaugural 2014 season of the newly-formed FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy.

World RX has already elicited a tremendous response since it evolved from the FIA European Rallycross Championship, and the arrival of RX Lites – emulating the hugely successful GRC Lites formula in the United States – is set to further rev up interest in what is sure to be one of the most popular and entertaining motor sport series on the planet.

RX Lites will run at a minimum of five World RX events in 2014, the first season of a multi-year agreement. It is designed to develop the rallycross stars of tomorrow and create a solid foundation for the future of the fastest growing motor sport in the world.

As a single-spec formula, all RX Lites entrants will compete in identical 310bhp, all-wheel-drive, rear-engined machinery, prioritising driver skill and close, wheel-to-wheel racing over any other parameter while keeping costs strictly to a minimum.

The series will be run by First Corner, a London-based marketing company and the cars will be delivered by Swedish rallycross specialists and multiple GRC champions OlsbergsMSE. Drivers and cars will make an appearance at World RX’s media launch in Italy in April.

“We are delighted to announce that RX Lites will be an integral part of the new FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2014 and beyond,” said Martin Anayi, Managing Director of series promoter IMG Motorsport. “The formula is a proven success, and with organisations of the calibre of OlsbergsMSE and Avitas Motorsport behind the project, we are confident that entries will fill up fast.

“These are incredibly exciting times for the sport of rallycross, and RX Lites will provide spectators with even more thrilling, doorhandle-to-doorhandle, edge-of-the-seat action over the coming months – as well as introducing fans to a whole new generation of rallycross talent. The start of the season cannot come soon enough!”
