British Touring Car Championship outfit Welch Motorsport will join the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this season with a single-car entry.
The team is planning a multi-year programme in the sportscar series alongside its on-going BTCC operation, and will co-operate closely with established Porsche squad Team Parker Racing over the upcoming campaign.
The Hampshire-based outfit have recently expanded their BTCC squad for 2014, with Ollie Jackson set to campaign a second Proton Gen-2 alongside team regular Daniel Welch.
“We want to come in to the Carrera Cup and find our feet,” said team principal John Welch. “We want to broaden the team’s base and we know we’ve got an awful lot to learn. Initially the car will run from the Parker awning at race weekends: we’ve known Stuart Parker for years and he’s a very good guy to work with. The car will run in the same livery as our touring cars.
“This is the start of what we plan to be a long association with Porsche. It fits very well for us and Porsche is a prestige brand.”
