Former MGCC MG Trophy champion Paul Streather will make the step-up to the Michelin Clio Series this season, running as a privateer in the race-car category.
The 24 year old, son of former Alfa Romeo champion Dave Streather, had leased a Renault UK Clio Cup race-winning Clio from his step-brother in-law, current Clio Cup front-runner Lee Pattison.
Streather made his car-racing debut back in 2010 in the MG Trophy, stunning the category regulars by winning the overall title at his first attempt. He went on to finish second overall in 2011 and third outright a year later, and is now returning to competitive race action having taken a year away.
“I am really excited to be moving into the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series and taking the next step in furthering my racing career at a higher level,” said Streather. “It will be a good challenge, on and off of the track, and I am looking forward to racing against some top drivers and competing against the professional teams in the paddock.”
“We’re delighted to welcome Paul into the championship this year, he’s precisely the kind of driver the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series is aimed at – someone who has enjoyed success at club level and is now looking to move their career forward,” added championship promoter Simon North.
