Barker the Star as Porsche Guest Car Returns

1 Mins read

Ben Barker is a welcome late addition to the grid for round one of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this weekend, starring in Porsche GB’s returning VIP entry.

Barker’s  championship return will be run by his Porsche Supercup team of 2013 Parr Motorsport. Parr have a history of running Porsche’s guest entry, last doing so in 2009 for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver Award contestants.

This will only be a one-off event for Barker; he is again contesting the Formula One supporting Porsche Supercup but switches to Verva Lechner Racing for this year.

The 21 year old brings valuable previous experience of racing the new Type 991 generation GT3 Cup; the car was introduced to the Supercup last year but 2014 is the new designs debut in Britain’s domestic Carrera Cup.

Barker is no stranger to the Carrera Cup GB, having finished runner up in 2012 to champion Michael Meadows. Meadows then went on to win the 2013 title and is rated by many as favourite to take a third championship this season.

Barker is hoping to challenge the reigning double champion at round one and is excited about his return to the UK Carrera Cup. “I’m grateful to Porsche and to Parr Motorsport for making this happen. I’m sure Michael is ready for the fight but I will up my game and we will see what happens on the track”, he commented.

Parr Motorsport boss Paul Robe is also glad to see his former charge return. “We worked with Ben in the Supercup last year so it’s great to have him back with us and we are looking forward to a good weekend” he added.

The battle at Brands Hatch this weekend is certainly going to be intense, with a mixture of young guns and experienced competitors taking to the track. 2014 is already shaping up to be a Carrera Cup GB classic.
