Michelin Clio Cup Series competitor Tommy Ostgaard has recently launched his own racing academy in his native Norway, with which he hopes to help up and coming young drivers carve a path to UK motorsport.
Created in conjunction with Clio Series and Protyre Formula Renault outfit SWB Motorsport, the winner of the academy will be rewarded with a fully-funded test in a SWB-run Clio Series ‘Roadcar’ class racer.
21 year old Ostgaard made his UK racing debut with SWB in Formula Renault in 2012, before enjoying a hugely successful maiden season in ‘tin tops’ with them last year, winning six races in the ‘Roadcar’ class of the Clio Series.
As well as receiving the prize test, the Academy victor will also receive coaching from Ostgaard himself, as well as media assistance and photography.
Ostgaard will be competing in the Clio Series once again in 2014, stepping up to the ‘Racecar’ class with front-running outfit SV Racing after taking a podium finish on his class debut with them in the end-of-season Autumn Cup event.
“Racing in the UK is hugely different to racing in Norway,” said Ostgaard. “It was a big transition for me but I have now established myself in the UK racing scene and I want to make it easier for other Norwegians to follow in my footsteps.
“We do not have any teams in Norway so it is hard for Norwegian drivers to imagine what it is like to drive for a professional racing team or get in touch with any of the teams. It is a great prize for the winner – they will have everything provided for a professional test.”
