Heikkinen Heads Back To The X Games

1 Mins read

Global Rallycross champion Topi Heikkinen is heading back to the X Games for 2014 as he looks to defend his four medals he won last year.

X Games moves to Austin, Texas for the first time this year and will run from June 5-8 with Heikkinen taking part in the rallycross and rally section, which has previously featured Ken Block, Sebastien Loeb and Colin McRae.

The 23-year-old Finn will be behind the wheel of his brand new 600-horsepower Marklund Motorsport Volkswagen Polo RX Supercar, with which he is also contesting this year’s inaugural FIA World Rallycross Championship.

“Of course we go there to try and win,” said the Finn. “That’s what I always do, and there’s only one approach to take: flat-out. But I also know from personal experience just how tough the X Games can be! It’s a fantastic challenge that is really popular with spectators, so I’m really looking forward to getting over there.”

In 2012 Heikkinen was forced out of the X Games following an massive accident in practice:

The X Games is being held for the first time in Austin at the Circuit of the Americas: the home of the United States Grand Prix. More than 200 athletes are expected to take part, including Topi’s team mate Anton Marklund. Other notable entries include Travis Pastrana and Tanner Foust, as well as former F1 driver Nelson Piquet Junior.
