Tom Onslow-Cole and Paul White have been granted a last-minute entry to the sell-out opening round of the British GT Championship.
Strata21, the JRM factory-supported team, put in a late entry for the BGT Championship, but despite managing to get on the 36-car grid, found themselves on the reserve list for the smaller capacity opening round at Oulton Park.
“We’re delighted that we’ve got the entry,” said Onslow-Cole after organisers SRO informed the team a space had become available. “Of course, we were looking forward to the races we had got confirmed but this makes it a whole lot sweeter. What was a collection of races in the BGT Championship, has now become a full championship campaign, and that’s exciting.”
However, as the entry was put through as late as it was, the two drivers have had very little time behind the wheel of the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 machine, meaning they will be on the back foot in comparison to their rivals in terms of testing mileage.
“I’d say we’ve done about 500kms between us in the Nissan,” explains White. “It’s not going to be easy to be on the pace of some of the other pairings, who have been in their cars for a couple of years, but the Nissan has, so far, been easy to learn. Mastering it will take seat-time but, with our newly secured entry, we have a whole load more of that to look forward to this weekend.”
The British GT Championship kicks off with qualifying at 16:20 on Saturday April 19, with two one-hour races taking place at 11:15 and 15:45 on Easter Monday (April 21)
