Tom Onslow-Cole to Compete in Spanish GT Championship

1 Mins read

Tom Onslow-Cole will compete in the Spanish GT Championship with Escuela Espanola de Pilotos.

Driving a Mosler MT900, Onslow-Cole will also race in selected rounds of the French VdeV series, starting this weekend at the Circuito de Navarra.

The announcement comes as Onslow-Cole prepares for the 2014 British GT Championship in the Strata21 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3, looking to gain as much experience behind the wheel of a GT car as possible. As a result, when experience endurance racer Javier Morcillo gave Onslow-Cole the chance to race his team’s MT900, it was an offer he couldn’t refuse.

“This is a brilliant opportunity for me to gain a lot of seat time in a fast and challenging GT car,” comments Onslow-Cole, who will be the team’s Pro-driver alongside Am team-mate Alberto de Martin. “The endurance race experience and the chance to cut my teeth on some new circuits won’t hurt either. With the addition of these championships I’m now looking at a 2014 racing calendar that takes me to 18 events throughout Europe and occasionally further. I couldn’t really ask for a better way to immerse myself into GT racing.”

“After working with Tom as a team-mate at Strata21, it is clear to me that he will do a great job in Spain for us,” added Morcillo, who will be racing in the Britcar Endurance Series at Silverstone this weekend. “In Spanish GT we run the cars as Pro-Am, so he will be teamed up with a driver we are training. I hope they work well together and can put a good result for the team. We are looking forward to seeing Tom in our Mosler this weekend – I am sure he will love the car and hopefully the team!”

Alongside his British GT Championship and Spanish GT Championship entries, Onslow-Cole will continue to race in the 24 Hour Series with KPM Racing in the Milltek Sport Golf TDI, looking to continue the run of form after podium results at the 24 Hours of Dubai and 12 Hours of Mugello.

“Although the British GT Championship is my main focus for the year, I always give these other races and championships my all,” concluded Onslow-Cole. “I’m really looking forward to getting out to Spain this weekend and I hope I can deliver over and above what the team is looking for.”
