Ben Barker is set to continue his varied 2014 campaign by returning to the Porsche Carrera Cup of Great Britain at Le Mans, joining the regular line-up as the series will come together with its’ French equivalent for a special support race on the Saturday morning of the world’s greatest race.
Barker contested the opening event of the 2014 Carrera Cup GB at the end of March, dominating and winning both the weekend’s encounters at Brands Hatch from second on the grid, as a guest driver for Parr Motorsport.
Prior to this he took a class victory in the Bathurst 12 Hours in February. This success continued into May, where Barker took his first ever podium in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup after a fantastic performance.
The European Le Mans series has been the BRDC Superstar’s other main focus, he has completed the opening two rounds at Silverstone and Imola in a Gulf liveried Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. This weekend he heads to Detroit to compete in the United Sportscar Championship.
“The last two months have been crazy, with Barcelona Supercup, Imola ELMS, Monaco Supercup, now Detroit and then Le Mans,” said the Briton, adding “I am really looking forward to the track and witnessing the 24 Hours live.”
Barker’s second comeback will again be managed by Parr Motorsport and it is with the thoughts of team boss, Paul Robe, that we conclude. “It is great news and I am really excited. We wanted a very good driver for Le Mans and Ben in the car could not be better. He is a proven winner and knows the car well.”
