Biagi Endures Difficult Debut in Supercup Round One

1 Mins read

Thomas Biagi’s Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup debut was not quite the success the former FIA GT champion may have hoped for, despite showing flashes of pace.

The MOMO-Megatron driver viewed the lighting gantry on Sunday in Barcelona at the Circuit de Catalunya, from the ninth row of the starting order, following a decent qualifying session.

In the race though, the Italian’s pace would slowly improve and after some assistance from the maladies of other drivers, he found himself in a respectable fourteenth position.

However, a positive debut was ruined within just over a lap of the finish, after contact sent him backwards into the Spanish gravel. Biagi himself though, remained pleased with his weekend overall.

“The outcome of this first weekend in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is positive anyway, despite the final result,” he stated, adding “The qualifying result went beyond my expectations and I was extremely pleased on receiving the compliments of Porsche Motorsport, that were surprised by the only six tenths gap to pole.”

Biagi was also impressed by the standing of the Supercup in international motor racing, commenting “In Barcelona I could touch with first-hand the high value of the Supercup: racing in front of the huge crowd of the Formula One fans with packed grand stands gives a strong emotion on top of the high TV visibility provided by Sky and Eurosport.”

Round two of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2014 commences around the streets of Monte Carlo this coming weekend.
